Contributed Learning Files
The learning files listed here are intended for use with Parley, KVocTrain and KWordQuiz which are both part of the KDE Edutainment project. The files can also be used with FlashKard, a program that was included in earlier versions of KDE. To some extent these files also work with KHangMan and Kanagram.
Creating kvtml files:- You can create a kvtml file using KWordQuiz. You add the back and front for each cards and then you save your data. It will be saved using the kvtml extension.
- KVocTrain is similiar in that aspect but adds some complexity. Create and edit kvtml file using KVocTrain.
- If you are on KDE4 already consider using Parley. Parly offers a wealth of editing possiblities without being as difficult to master as KVocTrain.
- Please see here for an example of a kvtml file if you want to create one with an editor.

Note: the key-signatures-all-keys file has been broken into -major and -minor, then those halves have been separated into -sharps and -flats since it is easier to learn those smaller chunks than to try to get everything in one go

GNU General Public License. You are encouraged to download and use the files according to their license.
And you are even more encouraged to contribute your own files or improve the existing ones!
There is another thing you should keep in mind when using data from books or similar: copyright violation. As a rule of thumb you might say that individual word translations can be used from books but not entire sections (The data isn't copyrighted but the collection of data is). Also books out of copyright can be used for data (in the US this means mainly pre-1923 books). Have a look at project Gutenberg at Projekt Gutenberg-DE (deutsche Webseite), or www.gutenberg.org (English site), for more information about finding out if a book is out of copyright.
Despite the fact that all files can be loaded and used with both KWordQuiz and KVocTrain you should keep in mind that KWordQuiz has a simpler design and might ignore some features from the files. If you work with KWordQuiz and save afterwards you might lose some properties that are available in KVocTrain. For that reason the table above lists advanced features that are only available in KVocTrain. Minor features like the names of lessons are not mentioned though they get lost with KWordQuiz. It is expected that this limitation will be removed in the next major version of KDE.
Important note for KVocTrain users: When changing the sources to be more compatible with the XML standards I broke compatibility with older executables and did not notice. If your KVocTrain application reports Error in line 2 you only have to load this file with a simple text editor and change in line 2 lowercase system and doctype to uppercase SYSTEM and DOCTYPE. As an alternative you may as well download the recent version from KDE CVS.
Removing Grades: Using KVocTrain you should be able to remove grades from the files by pressing the left mouse button over the table header of the translation (second column) and select "Reset Grades".
