This copy of the GEM/2 system is brought together from various drivers
and copies of the GEM system I have. It is GEM/2, with drivers for
various video modes from CGA to SVGA. This zip file also contains the
GEM Desktop V2.0, and GEM Output V1.23. It should be unzipped into the
root directory of a drive, using the -d option to recreate subdretories.

Once the software is unzipped, run SETUP.EXE in the \GEMSYS directory.
This is a quick program I wrote to change displays, and is nothing to do
with the original GEM Setup program. Select a display, then exit the
program by pressing 0, then 1 or 2. Please note that the Amstrad PC1512
display option does not work properly on other machines. To start GEM,
run GEMVDI.EXE in the \GEMSYS directory.

If you want to use a mouse with GEM, run your mouse driver (MOUSE.COM or
MOUSE.SYS, usually), before starting GEM. If you do not use a mouse with
GEM, it can be controlled using the arrow keys. HOME acts as the left
mouse button. This feature may not be active when GEM starts - if not, just
press CONTROL to switch it on.

The GEM Desktop may need to be configured for your machine. Extra drives
may be added by selecting a drive icon from the 'Disk Drives:' window (which
is accessable by clicking the bow-tie symbol in the top left of the Desktop
windows), then selecting Options, Install Disk Drives. Edit the details for
the new drive, then click 'Install'. To remove a drive you do not have,
click on the drive icon, then Options, Install Disk Drives, Remove. When
you have finished, navigate to a directory you want to start in, or the disk
drive window, then Options, Save Desktop.

The system is supplied with three basic desk accesories - Calculator, Clock
and Print Spooler. These are accessed from the 'DESKTOP' menu. There is
another one installed with GEM, called 'Snapshot'. It is not loaded by
default: to make it load, rename the 'SNAPSHOT' file in \GEMBOOT to
'SNAPSHOT.ACC', then restart GEM.

If you have any problems with GEM, you can e-mail me and I'll try my best to
help you out!
