_D_e_s_c_r_i_p_t_i_o_n:

canineMAPCOUNTS provides the "map count" (i.e. the count of mapped
keys) for each map in package canine.db.

_D_e_t_a_i_l_s:

This "map count" information is precalculated and stored in the
package annotation DB. This allows some quality control and is
used by the 'checkMAPCOUNTS' function defined in AnnotationDbi to
compare and validate different methods (like 'count.mappedkeys(x)'
or 'sum(!is.na(as.list(x)))') for getting the "map count" of a
     given map.

_S_e_e _A_l_s_o:

     'mappedkeys', 'count.mappedkeys', 'checkMAPCOUNTS'

_E_x_a_m_p_l_e_s:

       canineMAPCOUNTS
       mapnames <- names(canineMAPCOUNTS)
       canineMAPCOUNTS[mapnames[1]]
       x <- get(mapnames[1])
       sum(!is.na(as.list(x)))
       count.mappedkeys(x) # much faster!

       ## Check the "map count" of all the maps in package canine.db
       checkMAPCOUNTS("canine.db")
