The Advanced RSS Environment (affectionately called “The Arsse”) is a news aggregator server which implements multiple synchronization protocols. Unlike most other aggregator servers, The Arsse does not include a Web front-end (though one is planned as a separate project), and it relies on existing protocols to maximize compatibility with existing clients. Supported protocols are:
- Miniflux
- Nextcloud News
- Open Reader
- Tiny Tiny RSS
- Fever
The primary goal of The Arsse is to bridge the many isolated ecosystems of client software for the various news synchronization protocols currently in existence. We want people to be able to use the best client software for whatever operating system they use, regardless of the protocols the client supports.
The Arsse currently supports several popular protocols; though more are within scope for inclusion, no others are currently planned as no other protocols seem to have a large clients ecosystem.
At present the software should be considered in a “beta” state: besides a Web front-end, most features of similar software have been implemented, though bugs may remain. Areas of future work include:
- Better packaging and configuration samples
- A better newsfeed parser
